Meg has a long road ahead and her life has changed significantly.  She is receiving the best possible care and instruction at Craig Hospital, and the time spent at Craig will be critical to her recovery and to the future quality of her life. The financial cost of Meg's rehabilitation and entry into her new life will be extensive and this cost will be covered only partially by her health insurance.  As an illustration, consider the following, which comprise only a small listing of the potential costs associated with a paralyzing spinal cord injury:

  • 3-4 months at the Rehabilitation Hospital at $2,200/day. Meg's health insurance covers only the first 60 days.
  • Continued rehab, therapy, doctor's visits and other medical costs after discharge from Craig Hospital.
  • Around $50,000 for a properly modified vehicle for her to drive.
  • Thousands of dollars in related equipment costs (wheelchairs, beds, other adaptive equipment).
  • Expensive modifications to her home (lifts, ramps, roll-in shower, lowered counters, widened doorways, etc.) or the purchase of a different home altogether, one that is already modified.
  • Home health care aides to assist in the morning and evening.

The driver who hit Meg had no insurance and no financial resources.  Meg and her Family will bear the cost of this injury from here out. It is through fundraising that we hope to help cover some of these costs.
